So Many Blogs, So Little Quality

There's Julie And Julia, there's the Lulu Blooker Prize, and now, as has been widely reported, Riverbend's Baghdad Burning has been shortlisted for the Samuel Johnson Award. So, are blogs the new happy hunting ground of publishers? Not yet, according to Little, Brown's Judie Clain: "I don't think a blog is a great place to look for new writers, because there are so many, and so many aren't very good."

  • I couldn't agree more.

Until, of course, they discover ME.

  • The irony of that quote from Judy Clain seems to have been lost on you--she says that blogs are not a good place to look for new writers right after conceding that one of her most promising new writers was discovered via a blog. Hmmm. I'm guessing credit for that 'discovery' may belong to one of Ms. Clain's assistants. It belongs, at any rate, to someone with a slightly higher opinion of blogs.
